Research

The cancer immunemicroenvironment is highly complex, in part due to the many players involved. I am interested in unraveling this complexity via the implementation and optimization of novel spatial immunophenotyping technologies, such as imaging mass cytometry, spatial transcriptomics and multiplex immunofluorescence imaging. To achieve this I work on both the wet-lab and the computational side of things.

To even more aid our understanding of the tissue microenvironment, I try to integrate different multiplex methodologies within single analyses, such as the combination of MALDI-MSI and imaging mass cytometry on a single tissue section.

Besides my own research, I am responsible for the daily supervision of a number of PhD students in our group.

CV

I have a bachelor ‘Life sciences’ from the Hogeschool Utrecht and a master in ‘molecular and cellular life sciences’ from the Utrecht university. I did my last master internship under the supervision of Noel de Miranda where we investigated the TGFBR2 paradox in MSI-H colorectal cancer. Since 2016 I have been working in the Cancer Immunogenomics group, first for my PhD on ‘untangling the immune landscape of colorectal cancer by in situ multiplex immunophenotyping’ and since 2023 as a post-doc researcher.
